MSH Landlord, Private Hall and Community Awards 2019

The Manchester Student Homes 2019 Landlord, Private Hall and Community awards have been designed to recognise the hard work and professionalism of accredited accommodation providers. The awards ceremony took place on Friday 2nd August to highlight the outstanding service provided by accommodation providers. The ceremony also provided an opportunity for all those who live and work in the community to come together.

The Winners of the Landlord and Private Hall Awards

Landlord of the Year (10 properties or more) – Floorspace LTD

Floorspace is renowned for quality of service in the student lettings markets which provide high quality houses, at competitive prices, with a guarantee of excellent customer service. Floorspace has properties in areas with a high student population such as: Didsbury, Whalley Range, Fallowfield, Rusholme and Victoria Park.

Private Hall of the Year – Coniston Hall for Women

Achieving the Private Hall of the Year Award in 2018, Coniston Hall has excellent facilities which support study in a friendly and open environment. They provide opportunities to develop talents and take part in worthwhile volunteering projects.

Students have commented on Coniston Hall’s excellent service and student opportunities:

“By engaging with students during daily get-togethers as well as by organising a range of other social events, Coniston Hall makes a stay at a student hall of residence a unique experience.”

“The residents have many opportunities to get to know each other. Having meals together and the coffee and tea after dinner makes it feel very homely and we get to know the other residents like family.”

“They provide a really nice study atmosphere that is having a positive impact on my grades. While making life-long friendships with other girls in the hall.”

The Highly Commended Award

Anthony Cook, Michelle Greenwood & IQ Student Quarter received the ‘Highly Commended Award’ for providing an excellent service to their student tenants.

The Winner of the Good Neighbours Community Award

Helen Mansfield received the ‘Good Neighbours Community Award’ for her outstanding commitment to Old Moat Greenies. During her time with the group, Helen has used her knowledge and skills to personally support many local people to start growing flowers, fruit and vegetables. She has also supported the Southway Housing Trust on several local community projects including the community garden at Withington Fire Station. The garden had been in a state of neglect but is now thriving and has become real community project where all ages mix together in a shared interest.

Special Commendation

The ‘Britannia Basin Forum’ received a special Commendation for their creation and engagement and involvement of residents in making their community a more safe, happy, and vibrant place to live. Through their work they have:

  • Measured air pollution and put it to the council
  • Organised community litter picks
  • Set up a social media group to connect residents
  • Worked with the police and management agencies to combat ASB and crime
  • Commissioned local community art

Student Contribution to the Community Award

India Burgess received the ‘Good Neighbours Community Award: Student Contribution to the Community Award’ for running the ‘Every Month’ campaign and Homeless outreach group for the past year. Her enthusiasm has encouraged a lot of students to engage with volunteering which has had an amazing impact on the local community! Student outreach volunteers now provide tea and coffee to individuals living on the street and over 50 students are helping to organise sanitary packs for vulnerable women in order to combat period poverty.

Over 25 landlords, community members and students attended the Landlord & Private Hall Awards Ceremony. This provided a great opportunity to discuss upcoming volunteering opportunities and community events.
